Discrete-time extremum-seeking for Wiener-Hammerstein plants

چکیده
This paper presents a new formulation of extremum-seeking control for discrete-time Wiener– Hammerstein plants. A novel method of analysis using Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) system theory demonstrates semi-global stability of the control scheme. Assuming only limited plant knowledge, the stability result ensures convergence of the plant output in steady state to a point in an arbitrarily small neighbourhood of the extremum, for appropriately chosen controller parameters. The behaviour of the control scheme is analysed on a simple simulated system, prior to being implemented on an internal combustion engine. Experiments demonstrate how the scheme is able to maximise engine output torque in the presence of an uncertain fuel composition by modifying the spark timing. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. Fast extremum-seeking for Hammerstein plants
The prevailing analyses of sinusoidally perturbed extremum-seeking (ES) schemes require the ES scheme to act slowly relative to the plant dynamics. Existing analyses that do allow for fast ES are fairly restrictive, considering only local behaviour on Wiener–Hammerstein plants where the nonlinear element is quadratic. In this paper, semi-global stability of an ES scheme acting on a general Hamm...
متن کاملFast extremum seeking on Hammerstein plants: A model-based approach
Partial plant knowledge may be used to develop model-based extremum seekers; however, existing results rely on a type of time-scale separationwhich leads to slow optimization relative to the plant dynamics. In this work, a fast model-based extremum seeking scheme is proposed for a Hammerstein plant, and semi-global stability results are provided. The structure of a Hammerstein plant is used to ...
متن کاملFast extremum-seeking for Wiener-Hammerstein plants
This paper considers an observer-based extremum-seeking (ES) schemeacting on aWiener–Hammerstein (WH) plant. The ES scheme utilises a high-frequency sinusoidal dither in order to achieve fast minimisation of the plant’s static nonlinearity. Unlike the prevailing analyses of ‘‘fast’’ ES schemes acting on WH plants, the presented result is semi-global and applicable to plants with fairly general,...

Introduction: Block-oriented structures are useful to model a nonlinear system. Applications range from RF amplifiers over chemical processes to physiological systems [1]. A block-oriented model consists of two types of blocks: Linear Time Invariant (LTI) and static nonlinear blocks. The most simple block-oriented model structures are the Wiener (a LTI block followed by a static nonlinear block...
متن کاملExtremum seeking control for discrete-time systems
We present an extremum seeking control algorithm for discrete-time systems applied to a class of plants that are represented as a series combination of a linear input dynamics, a static nonlinearity with an extremum, and a linear output dynamics. By using the two-time scale averaging theory, we derive a mild sufficient condition under which the plant output exponentially converges to an ( ) nei...
